Drivers in Colwood and surrounding areas should plan for overnight delays on Sooke Road as BC Hydro continues infrastructure upgrades between Woodruff Road and Kangaroo Road. These improvements to utility poles and power lines are intended to increase the reliability of the electrical system for local communities.
The construction is taking place nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and is expected to continue until April 24, 2026. While the project is set to conclude on that date, officials note that timelines may be adjusted based on weather conditions or other factors at the work site.
Traffic patterns in the area will shift to accommodate the crews. In two-lane sections of the road, traffic will be reduced to single-lane alternating flow, while two lanes will remain open for drivers in three-lane sections. Electronic message boards will be installed to provide updates, and traffic control personnel will be on-site to guide vehicles safely through the work zone.
This utility project follows earlier tree removal operations that began in February 2026 along the same corridor. Residents and commuters are advised to stay alert for changes to traffic flow and to allow extra time for travel during these overnight hours.
