Adults in Minnedosa and Neepawa will have a new place to finish high school or upgrade their skills when Assiniboine College opens two learning centres in their communities this September 2026.
The Manitoba government is putting $367,000 toward the expansion, which will help learners in the Westman area earn a Grade 12 diploma or prepare for further education. “This expansion will help more adult learners in the Westman area achieve their goals and ultimately go on to continue their success in future education, further their careers and contribute to their communities,” said Karen O’Gilvie, director of the Centre for Adult Learning at Assiniboine College.
The new Minnedosa site will be at 74 Armitage Avenue inside Minnedosa Collegiate. The Neepawa location will be at the Neepawa Training Centre, 239 Mill Street. Both centres will offer day and evening classes, with options to study in person or online.
Assiniboine already runs adult learning centres in Brandon and Dauphin. The two new sites mean more adults can stay in their own towns while getting their education.
Anyone interested can attend an information session to learn more. Online sessions are set for August 12 at noon and 4 p.m. An in-person session in Minnedosa is planned for August 13 at 6 p.m., and a Neepawa in-person session will happen August 18 at 6 p.m.
The funding is part of a larger provincial push that brought total adult learning and literacy spending to $24.9 million for the 2026-27 year.
