The 17th Moosehide Gathering is set for July 30 to August 2, 2026, at Moosehide Village just downriver from Dawson City, Yukon. The Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation is hosting the biennial celebration of Hän culture, with free boat transportation from Dawson City and free camping on site for all who attend.
Applications for the gathering have now closed, and organizers are preparing to welcome visitors from across Canada and Alaska. This year’s event will include live performances, dancing, drumming, singing, guest speakers, feasts, and arts and crafts. The gathering draws about 1,000 people to the historic village, located three kilometers downriver from Dawson City.
The Moosehide Gathering began in 1993 as an effort to bring back Hän traditions that were nearly lost. During the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800s, Hän Chief Isaac sent the community’s songs and dances to relatives in Tanacross, Alaska to keep them safe. It took a century before the community was ready to reclaim them, leading to the first gathering more than 30 years ago.
The event happens every two years. The 2020 gathering was cancelled because of the pandemic, but it returned in 2022. The 2024 gathering continued the tradition, and 2026 will mark the 17th gathering. Regular free boat shuttles will run from Dawson City to Moosehide Village during the four-day event, and guests can camp at no cost.
