Residents in Dawson City, Yukon, can expect bright sunshine and freezing temperatures through March 30, 2026, as a cold spell moves through the region. While the clear skies offer good visibility for outdoor travel, the combination of low temperatures and wind chill will keep the community significantly colder than is typical for this time of year.
Data from Environment Canada shows that while daytime highs will gradually rise from -10°C on Wednesday to -4°C by the weekend, nighttime temperatures will remain very low. Overnight lows are expected to range between -29°C and -16°C throughout the rest of the week.
On Wednesday morning, the Dawson Airport recorded a wind chill of -33°C, which poses a high risk of frostbite for anyone with exposed skin. The Yukon Government recommends that people dress for extreme cold and monitor for symptoms of skin freezing, which can occur in as little as 10 to 30 minutes.
Although Dawson City is accustomed to a subarctic climate, these conditions are roughly five to 13 degrees colder than the usual late March averages. No official weather alerts are currently in place, but the clear skies are a change from the cloudy weather that usually covers the community about 60 per cent of the time during this month.
