Residents in Dawson City, Yukon, are invited to share their thoughts on local safety and support services during a community meeting on March 25, 2026. The Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in government is hosting this third session to gather final input for a new community safety plan.
The meeting takes place at Äłät Nëhëjël, located at 1242 Front Street. This initiative focuses on setting priorities for neighbourhood safety, prevention programs, and how local policing and support services work within the community.
The planning process began in September 2025 when the First Nation called for citizens to join a core committee. The project receives support from Public Safety Canada through a program that helps Indigenous communities create their own crime prevention and safety goals.
Community safety has been a major priority for local leaders like Hähkè Darren Taylor. Recent efforts have included work at the Jëje Zho men’s shelter, which distributed 250 harm reduction kits and medical supplies between September and December 2023.
Input from this meeting will help officials decide how to improve support services and local safety responses that affect daily life. The resulting plan will eventually be used to help secure funding for new community-led programs.
