Residents of Dawson City can look forward to a break from the cold as a warming trend moves into the region this weekend. According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to climb from the current frigid conditions to a mild 5°C by Sunday and Monday.
The shift follows a particularly chilly start to the day on Friday, April 3, 2026, when temperatures at the Dawson Airport were recorded at -18.3°C. While morning wind chills will remain near -15°C throughout the transition, afternoon highs are expected to feel noticeably warmer than in recent days.
Forecasters are calling for a mix of sun and cloud for the next few days, with only a slight 30 percent chance of flurries on Saturday. There are currently no weather alerts in effect for the area, suggesting that the upcoming conditions are a standard part of the seasonal change from winter to spring.
This warming trend aligns with typical weather patterns for April, which Dawson City Tourism notes serves as a transition period in the local subarctic climate. Additionally, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has predicted seasonal to warmer-than-normal temperatures for the Yukon Territory throughout this spring.
As the region moves toward summer, daylight is also increasing rapidly. On April 3, residents saw the sun rise at 7:29 AM and set at 9:15 PM, providing nearly 14 hours of daylight.
