Residents of Fort Saskatchewan can enjoy a free movie screening on Mother’s Day as part of local events marking Mental Health Week. The Family and Community Support Services department is hosting the showing of Kung Fu Panda at Fort Cinema on May 10, 2026.
The event is held in coordination with the Canadian Mental Health Association, which has organized Mental Health Week annually since 1951. This year’s campaign, titled Come Together, Canada, runs from May 4 to May 10 and aims to highlight how social connections can improve mental well-being and build resilient communities. Organizers selected the film because it shares themes of confidence, perseverance, and believing in yourself, all of which align with the goals of the awareness week.
Doors at the cinema will open at 10:00 am, and the movie will begin at 10:30 am. There are 130 free tickets available for the community, which can be secured through Ticketpro. Families attending the screening can also download a children’s activity book to take home.
According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, one in five people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness in any given year. Through events like this, the local support services team aims to provide accessible activities that encourage community connection and support the mental wellness of residents.
