The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP continues to monitor regional crime trends as Alberta maintains a high rate of vehicle theft. Local law enforcement remains focused on vehicle safety and theft prevention across the city and surrounding areas, including the Towns of Lamont and Bruderheim, the Village of Chipman, and parts of Lamont and Sturgeon Counties.
To combat the frequency of stolen vehicles, the local detachment launched a program called Operation Cold Start in February 2026. According to the Fort Saskatchewan Record, this initiative is specifically designed to prevent the theft of idling vehicles by encouraging drivers to stay with their cars while they warm up.
Regional data highlights fluctuating theft rates across the local detachment’s coverage area. Between 2023 and 2024, the Town of Lamont experienced a 31 percent increase in motor vehicle thefts, while Sturgeon County reported a 25 percent decrease over the same period.
