The City of Fort Saskatchewan released its weekly construction update on May 6, 2026, outlining several infrastructure projects aimed at supporting the community’s growth. Residents should prepare for upcoming road work and ongoing site development at the Dow Centennial Centre.
Construction crews are currently working on a new Aquatics Facility, which is being built next to the existing Dow Centennial Centre. To allow for the installation of essential water and sewer infrastructure, Greenfield Way will see temporary road closures from May 11 to May 16, 2026. This $72 million project, supported by a $5.6 million contribution from Dow Canada, will replace the older Harbour Pool and is expected to nearly double the city’s swimming lesson capacity.
Drivers should also plan for neighbourhood rehabilitation on 102 Street. Work to rehabilitate the road between 98 and 99 Avenue is set to begin on May 25, 2026.
Other projects are moving through the planning and design stages. The city is currently seeking contractors for a new Bike Skills Park to be built north of the Dow Baseball Fields, with the tender process ending May 20, 2026. Additionally, design work is underway for the Helmuth Ritter Fire Station. This second fire hall, planned for Southridge Boulevard near Heartland Ford, is being developed to address response time gaps in the southern parts of the city, which is currently served by a single station and a team of 41 full-time and paid-on-call firefighters.
