The Fort Saskatchewan Trail Alliance is looking for volunteers to help get local trails ready for the fast-approaching Alberta Summer Games. A Trail Care Night is set for July 14, 2026 at 6:30 p.m., where residents will trim branches and clear sightlines along the river valley paths.
The Games run from July 16 to 19, with mountain biking competitions happening at West River’s Edge in Fort Saskatchewan. Organizers expect thousands of young athletes from across the province to descend on the region, putting the community’s trail network in the spotlight.
“Join our trail care night in preparation of the Summer Games coming. We have branches to trim and sightlines to improve!” the Trail Alliance posted on its website.
The volunteer event is a hands-on way for hikers, runners, and cyclists to contribute to the upkeep of more than 75 kilometres of trails maintained through a partnership between the City of Fort Saskatchewan and the Trail Alliance. The non-profit group, formed in 2022, focuses on protecting and enhancing the single track system that has been a recreation staple since the early 1990s.
With over 1,500 volunteers needed for the Games overall, every helping hand counts. West River’s Edge is one of the venues still seeking support, according to the event’s Volunteer and Ceremonies Coordinator.
