Residents in Gimli, Manitoba, are seeing a shift in weather this weekend as temperatures begin to climb following a chilly start to May.
According to Environment Canada, the morning of Friday, May 1, 2026, began with a temperature of 0.6°C. The forecast for the day shows mainly sunny skies with a high of 13°C, though residents felt a wind chill near -5 during the morning hours.
The warming trend is expected to continue into Saturday, May 2, with a forecast high of 15°C. The day will be mainly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and winds increasing to 40 km/h in the afternoon. By Sunday, May 3, the region will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 12°C.
This period of milder weather is a welcome change for the community, which has dealt with a series of storms throughout April. These fast-moving systems, often called Alberta clippers, have brought frequent snowfall to the area over the past month. The Province of Manitoba has also been monitoring the region for potential spring flooding due to higher than normal snow water content in the Interlake Region.
The brief warm-up will be short-lived, however. Temperatures are expected to drop on Monday, May 4, with a high of only 4°C and an overnight low of -2°C.
