The Rural Municipality of Gimli has officially released its community events calendar for the summer of 2026, featuring a variety of cultural, sporting, and family-oriented activities spanning from May through September.
The season kicks off with several events in May, including the Ride for Dad motorcycle ride on May 30 and the spring curbside giveaway on May 23 and 24. Beginning in June, the community will host free fitness sessions every Saturday throughout the summer.
A busy June schedule features the Spring Pickleball Tournament and the Gimli Pride Festival, both taking place from June 12 to 14. On June 21, the community will observe Indigenous Peoples Day at the park pavilion and stage from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with events featuring cultural teachings, dance, and performances organized in partnership with the Gimli Chamber of Commerce.
July will be filled with major community celebrations, starting with Canada Day on July 1, which includes a parade, fireworks, and a pancake breakfast provided by the Kiwanis Club of Gimli & District. On July 12, the Gimli Car Club will hold its annual car show in the downtown area starting at 11:00 a.m.
The Gimli International Film Festival, which is marking its 26th year, is set to run from July 22 to 26. The festival takes place on Treaty 1 territory and the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Following the film festival, the community will mark Gimli Glider Day on July 23, an annual event commemorating the 1983 emergency landing of Air Canada Flight 143.
Rounding out the major summer events is the 137th edition of the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, which is scheduled for July 31 to August 3. Residents and visitors can find more information about these and other local gatherings through the municipality website.
