Grimsby Town Council is set to vote on a new Official Plan at its meeting on Monday, July 13, 2026, that will shape how the town grows and develops through 2051.
The updated plan, if adopted, will replace the existing framework from 2012. It lays out rules for land use, housing, and growth management, directly affecting property owners, builders, and anyone with a stake in the town’s future.
At a special meeting in June, council unanimously backed building height caps of four storeys on Main Street and six storeys in the rest of the downtown. This direction is reflected in the final draft that councillors will consider next week.
The document identifies three areas targeted for more homes and businesses: in and around the new Grimsby GO Station, downtown, and near the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
The planning review started in 2023 and was influenced by big changes in provincial rules. On March 31, 2025, Niagara Region handed over planning powers to Grimsby, giving the town more direct control over its own growth.
