The Grimsby Farmers’ Market returns this Thursday, July 23, bringing fresh produce and handmade goods to the Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre at 162 Livingston Avenue in Grimsby, Ontario, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Later that evening, Music Nights in the Park continues with a free live performance by Niagara country/rock duo Tin Roof at Coronation Park.
Presented by the Downtown Grimsby BIA, both events offer a full afternoon and evening of community activity. The market, now in its 19th season, is a ‘Home Grown’ market, meaning all vendors grow or make what they sell. About 30 local farms and artisans set up each week at the Peach King Centre parking lot behind Town Hall.
Grimsby Farmers’ Market runs rain or shine every Thursday from early June through Thanksgiving weekend. Founded in 2008, it has become a summer tradition for residents looking to connect directly with Niagara Region growers. This season, the market moved to the Peach King Centre on June 25 to accommodate downtown construction. Shoppers can expect seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked goods, preserves, and handcrafted items.
Just a short drive away, Coronation Park at 1 Elm Street will host the fourth Music Nights in the Park of the season. The concert runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., right after the market wraps up. This week’s featured act is Tin Roof, a husband-and-wife duo, Stacey and Adam Gagliardi, who deliver a Nashville-inspired country/rock sound. They can also perform as a trio or full five-piece band depending on the event.
During the concert, CreekSides Ice Cream will be on-site with treats for purchase. Kids can enjoy free face painting and balloon twisting until 8:30 p.m. The town encourages attendees to bring lawn chairs or dancing shoes for the evening of live music.
For those interested in local history, the Grimsby Museum is hosting a Beach Walking Tour on July 22 at 6 p.m. The tour starts at Grimsby Beach Hall, 10 Grand Avenue, and costs $18.57 per person. Participants will learn about Grimsby Beach’s transformation from Methodist camp ground to amusement park and residential neighbourhood.
