The Guelph Police Service made four separate arrests on Thursday, April 17, 2026, as part of a busy 24-hour period that saw officers respond to 249 calls for service across the city.
One arrest involved a 48-year-old man taken into custody downtown. Police were called to Wyndham Street North around 11:30 a.m. after a witness saw a man showing a firearm to another person. Officers discovered the man was carrying a replica firearm and was bound by a probation order as well as three lifetime weapons prohibitions. Under federal law, such orders permanently restrict individuals from possessing prohibited firearms, weapons, or ammunition.
In a separate case, police arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a robbery at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario store on Scottsdale Drive that occurred on August 20, 2025. During that incident, four suspects stole more than $4,600 in merchandise. When a customer tried to intervene, one of the suspects sprayed them in the face with a noxious substance.
A third arrest occurred after an officer pulled over a vehicle on Gordon Street just after 2 a.m. for having unlit rear lights. The 21-year-old driver did not have his licence and provided his brother’s name to police. An investigation revealed the man was actually facing three separate licence suspensions.
On the same day, police made a fourth arrest involving a 38-year-old man, resulting in the seizure of over $50,000 worth of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and opioid tablets. Officers also recovered $5,600 in cash and a conducted energy weapon during that stop. All individuals arrested on April 17 were held for bail hearings.
