Guelph Gryphons quarterback Tristan Aboud led Team West to a 28-27 victory at the U SPORTS East-West Bowl on May 9, 2026, at Warrior Field in Waterloo, Ontario. The annual showcase featured 107 of the top Canadian university football players eligible for the 2027 professional draft, providing a stage for athletes to demonstrate their skills to scouts and team management.
Aboud earned Offensive Player of the Game honours for his performance, completing 14-of-20 passes for 280 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. His impact on the game included a 41-yard catch-and-run touchdown pass to his Guelph Gryphons teammate Marshall McCray, who also scored a rushing touchdown during the match.
The Guelph football program had a strong showing at the event, with five student-athletes representing Team West, the highest number of players from any single university. In addition to Aboud and McCray, the contingent included receiver William Arseneau, linebacker Jevaun Jacobsen, and defensive backs Kyle Simon-Guerin and Nate Slawter.
The game concluded in dramatic fashion when a 17-yard field goal attempt by Team East kicker Felipe Forteza sailed wide, securing the one-point win for Team West. The victory marked the third consecutive win for the West in the series, improving their all-time record to 15-7 since the current format began in 2003. Throughout the game, Team West’s offence maintained a strong pace, producing 22 first downs and totaling 487 yards.
