A student at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute in Guelph has been awarded a $5,000 national scholarship for her achievements in technology. On April 28, 2026, Shealteile B. was named a recipient of the Hackergal x RBCx Future Tech Leaders Scholarship, an award that supports young women and gender-diverse students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
The scholarship is provided by Hackergal, a national charity founded in 2015 that works to close the gender gap in technology by providing coding education to students in grades 6 through 12. The program is sponsored by RBCx, the technology and innovation arm of the Royal Bank of Canada, as part of an effort to encourage diversity within the tech sector. Only up to two students from across Canada receive this award each year.
Shealteile was selected by a committee that highlighted her passion for technology, her experience in the field, and her commitment to diversity and inclusion. Her involvement with the organization began with learning to code, and she has since transitioned into teaching others code and web design. She noted that a personal highlight of her journey has been helping to provide a safe space for other students to explore technology.
As a student at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute, Shealteile is part of the Upper Grand District School Board, which serves students across Guelph, Wellington County, and Dufferin County.
