Motorists in Guelph will face delays starting next week as two separate road construction projects get underway. Paving work on four residential streets in the city’s northeast end begins July 7, while lane closures on a key downtown artery start July 6.
The City of Guelph announced that Dakota Drive, Delaware Avenue, Ramona Court, and Algonquin Road will be repaved starting July 7. The project, a four- to six-week undertaking by contractor Brantco Construction, is part of the city’s Annual Paving Program. Crews will remove the existing asphalt, grade the gravel base, repair curbs, adjust storm grates, manhole covers and valves, and repave the roads.
Drivers should expect lane reductions in the construction area from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during working hours. Temporary driveway and on-street parking restrictions may also be in place. Residents are asked to follow posted signs and any flag people directing traffic.
Meanwhile, on Norfolk Street near the Gordon Street and Waterloo Avenue intersection, lane closures will run daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between July 6 and July 10. Telecon is replacing bridge troughing on the CN railway bridge, and two-way traffic will be maintained throughout.
The City says its Annual Paving Program prioritizes work in school zones between July 1 and August 31, when students are on summer break. Both projects are weather-dependent, and completion timelines may shift with conditions. Residents with questions can contact the City’s Engineering and Transportation Services at 519-837-5604 or Traffic Services at 519-822-1260 extension 3414. Guelph Transit service is not affected by either project.
