Environment Canada forecasts the week of July 20 to 25 will bring a mix of sun, clouds, and a chance of showers, offering a break from the recent heat wave that baked southern Ontario.
Monday started cool at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute weather station, with a temperature of 20.4°C recorded at 11:00 a.m. But it is expected to warm up to a high of 25°C under sunny skies, feeling like 28 with the humidex. The UV index is forecast to hit 9, which is considered very high, so anyone heading outdoors should take sun safety precautions.
Showers and a risk of thunderstorms move in on Tuesday, with a high of 23°C and gusty southwest winds up to 50 km/h. Wednesday will be cooler at 20°C with a mix of sun and cloud and a 30 percent chance of showers, before clearing at night with a low of 10°C.
The sunshine returns by Thursday and sticks around through Saturday, with highs climbing back to 25°C on Thursday and 26°C on Friday and Saturday under a mix of sun and cloud. Overnight lows will sit between 10°C and 16°C. These conditions are right around the normal late-July high of 26°C and low of 14°C for the area.
This week’s weather is a relief after a mid-July heat wave that pushed humidex values into the 40s across southern Ontario. No weather alerts are in effect for Guelph right now. Still, with the UV index reaching very high levels on Monday, Health Canada recommends limiting time in the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., wearing UV-protective sunglasses, seeking shade, and reapplying sunscreen every two hours.
