With 10 days to go, the 13th annual Tour de Guelph cycling fundraiser has raised $159,000, putting it 69 per cent of the way toward its $230,000 goal. The community event, set for Sunday, June 28 at the University of Guelph’s University Centre, raises money for Guelph General Hospital’s Speedvale Campus expansion and local Rotary programs.
This year’s proceeds will go to construction and equipment for Phase 2 of the hospital’s new Speedvale Campus. Phase 2 is planned for spring 2027 and will add endoscopy and orthopedic fracture clinics to the facility.
The push for Phase 2 follows the March 2, 2026 opening of Phase 1, a diagnostic imaging centre that brought a second MRI to Guelph-Wellington. Funded entirely by $11 million in community donations—including a $5 million gift from The Angel Gabriel Foundation—Phase 1 is already providing faster scans and earlier diagnoses for local patients.
Presented by Guelph-based Label Design Ltd., this year’s ride welcomes cyclists of all ages and skill levels with routes from 5 km to 113 km. Residents can register to ride, donate, or volunteer through the Tour de Guelph website.
The event’s fundraising push also highlights a unique reality at Guelph General Hospital: all patient care equipment—from IV pumps to MRI scanners—must be paid for by community donations. Past Tour de Guelph rides have funded vital tools such as ventilators, a CT scanner, and surgical team gear.
Now in its 13th year, Tour de Guelph is organized by the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium in partnership with The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital. Together they’ve raised over $1.4 million in net proceeds since the event began. Last year’s ride saw a record 850 riders and brought in $226,500, which supported 38 local organizations including bike helmets for the Brain Injury Association W/W and mental health literacy programs through Action Read.
The ride starts at the University Centre on Sunday, June 28, with staggered departures for different routes. Registration and fundraising remain open at tourdeguelph.ca, and organizers hope a strong finish will carry them past the $230,000 mark.
