Students in Hanover, Ontario, can attend special catch-up clinics this month to update their vaccination records and avoid being suspended from school. Grey Bruce Public Health is hosting these clinics throughout March 2026, including during March Break, to help families follow the rules of the Immunization of School Pupils Act.
About 900 students across the region received suspension notices in mid-February 2026 because their health records were not up to date. This work is part of a larger project that has already helped 67 percent of at-risk students get their records in order since the summer of 2025.
Monica Blair, a program manager with the health unit, says the goal is to get all students caught up before the suspension period starts in late March 2026. These community clinics also help prevent a last-minute rush of people visiting Hanover and District Hospital for help with routine shots or paperwork.
Keeping these records current is also a safety measure for the community in case of a sickness outbreak. Under provincial law, students who do not have proof of protection from certain diseases must stay home from school if a disease starts spreading in their building.
