The Hanover Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, March 30, 2026, to consider accepting provincial funding to improve local emergency services in Hanover, Ontario. This meeting will determine if the town moves forward with an agreement to receive money for emergency planning and equipment.
The meeting is set for 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and residents can attend in person or watch online. Council will vote on whether to sign an agreement to receive money from the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant.
This grant provides between $5,000 and $50,000 to help local governments buy emergency gear, supplies, and services. The provincial government has already supported 342 communities with $15 million in funding since the program started in 2023.
The Ministry of Emergency Preparedness and Response is in charge of the program. This funding is part of a $110 million provincial investment meant to help towns get ready for future emergencies.
The Town of Hanover already has an emergency plan and teams that are available to take action at any time. Other municipalities have recently used this type of funding to purchase generators and set up local evacuation centres.
