The Town of Hay River Standing Committee of Council is set to meet on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss a variety of community infrastructure and service matters.
The meeting comes shortly after the federal government announced $20.1 million in funding on April 7, 2026, to help build a new water treatment plant for the town. The project is supported through the federal Build Communities Strong Fund.
Infrastructure remains a key focus for local leadership, as the town is currently managing roughly 50 water service line freeze-ups. These issues have been caused by deeper than normal frost, with some areas seeing frost penetrate as deep as 10 feet into the ground.
Beyond water services, the committee will consider the approval of two major capital projects: a $700,000 fire tender replacement and an $800,000 replacement for a Type 1 fire engine. Additionally, the committee will review plans for a public auction on July 16, 2026, for properties with tax arrears.
The meeting will also feature a presentation from the Hay River Community Garden Society regarding their future plans. The session, overseen by Senior Administrative Officer Glenn Smith, is open to the public at the Council Chambers located at 100-62 Woodland Drive.
