Young hockey players in Hay River, Northwest Territories, now have a clear roadmap to try out for Team NT after Hockey NWT launched a new online information hub on July 30, 2026.
The hub is the official starting point for athletes and families who want to chase a spot on the territorial team for the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Québec City. It brings together selection policies, registration details, camp schedules, and answers to common questions, all in one place.
Registration for the August 2026 preparation and identification camps is open now, but families need to act fast. The deadline is July 31, 2026. The preparation camp runs August 10 to 12, followed by the identification camp from August 13 to 16, both at the Multiplex in Yellowknife. Fall 2026 trials will follow, with final team selections expected by winter.
For the men’s team, athletes must be under 16 as of December 31, 2026, which means birth years 2011 to 2015. For the women’s team, athletes must be under 18, covering birth years 2009 to 2015. Under a small jurisdiction strategy, up to three athletes born in 2010 (men) or 2008 (women) could also be selected.
As the second largest minor hockey association in the Northwest Territories, Hay River Minor Hockey has a strong tradition of sending players to higher levels. This new hub gives local families a direct line to the information they need, without having to hunt across different websites.
“This page will serve as the central source for all information related to Team NT’s journey to the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Québec, including athlete selection, camps, trials, key dates, and important resources,” the hub states.
The 2027 Canada Winter Games are set for February 27 to March 13, 2027, returning to Québec City 60 years after the first Canada Games were held there in 1967. Hockey NWT has also published a detailed athlete selection policy, a technical package, and a question and answer resource so everyone understands the process.
Team Northwest Territories has won 22 medals at past Canada Winter Games, with the most successful showing in 1971 in Saskatoon, where they earned five medals including two golds.
Hay River players who want to compete can find everything they need on the new hub, including camp registration forms and eligibility details, before the July 31 cutoff.
