The Town of High River is bringing back its free Cycling Without Age program for the summer, offering electric-assisted trishaw bike rides to seniors and people with mobility challenges. The program, now in its tenth year, lets residents enjoy the outdoors and stay connected to the community at no cost.
The Town of High River announced the program’s return on June 24, 2026. Rides are booked through the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Resource Centre at 251 9 Ave SW. Residents can also sign up to volunteer as pilots by emailing [email protected] or calling 403-652-8620.
“A program like Cycling Without Age shows the true heart of our community,” said Mayor Craig Snodgrass. “Thank you to the volunteers, contributors, partners, and the community at large for continuing to make this special program a success. Your generous giving shows that this Town truly puts people first.”
The program started in 2017 after the Town received a $25,000 grant from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. It has since become a valued local tradition, with volunteer pilots providing 158 rides to 270 passengers in 2024 alone. Community partners include High River Hospital, Highwood Golf, Abbeyfield House, Seasons Retirement Communities, and Medicine Tree Manor.
The trishaw bikes used in the program can carry up to two passengers and are electric-assisted, making cycling accessible for those who cannot pedal on their own. The rides give participants a chance to take in fresh air and feel the movement of the outdoors, helping to reduce social isolation.
