Hinton property owners will have until July 30 to pay their taxes this year after a software change delayed the mailing of notices, the Town of Hinton has confirmed. The delay means residents and businesses can expect their tax notices later than usual but will still have until the July 30 deadline to pay without facing any penalties.
The Town said the holdup stems from a new accounting software system being installed because the old software will no longer be supported after 2026. “Distribution has been delayed due to a recent software change,” the Town of Hinton stated. “But the Town’s Administrative team is working diligently to ensure notices are sent out as quickly as possible.”
With notices expected soon, the July 30 deadline applies to all property owners in Hinton, including the roughly 456 local businesses (as of 2024) that call the town home. Major employers like the Mondi Hinton pulp mill and the Vista Coal Mine, operated by Coalspur Mine (Operations) Ltd., are among the commercial property taxpayers who will see the same extended timeline.
Hinton’s economy leans heavily on resource industries, and the tax revenue from residential and commercial properties funds a significant portion of the town’s operations. The Town reminds property owners to keep an eye on their mailboxes and plan their payments before the July 30 cutoff to avoid late fees.
