Lethbridge Police have charged a 29-year-old Lethbridge man with drug trafficking offences after seizing about 1,100 doses of fentanyl in the West Highlands neighbourhood. Levi Cyprian Harris faces five charges, including three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
On September 1, 2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., police responded to a report of people using drugs inside a vehicle parked along the 400 block of Highlands Boulevard. Officers arrested two people at the scene and later took Harris into custody when he returned to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up 110 grams of fentanyl, which police say is equal to about 1,100 doses, along with nearly 30 grams of cocaine, 88 grams of methamphetamine, more than $1,000 in cash, bear spray, and a collapsible baton.
Harris is a repeat offender. In 2022, he pleaded guilty in Lethbridge provincial court to charges that included drug possession, theft, and several weapons counts, and was sentenced to 115 days in jail. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Harris was remanded in custody and appeared in court on September 4, 2026.
The seizure comes as Lethbridge has seen a dramatic drop in overdose deaths, from a peak of 109 deaths in the first 10 months of 2023 to 11 deaths by October 2025. However, fentanyl remains a serious concern in Alberta, where it was detected in 94 per cent of fatal overdose victims provincially.
The Lethbridge Police Service said the man and woman initially arrested from inside the vehicle were released without charges. Police also recovered property believed to have been stolen from a westside business. The investigation is ongoing.
