Residents of Neepawa can now look ahead to their 2026 property tax obligations as the town has officially released its draft financial plan and launched an updated online tax calculator.
The town has made these resources available on its property tax webpage to help property owners estimate their upcoming tax bills. The town reminds residents that all property taxes for the 2026 year are due in full by 4:00 p.m. on September 29, 2026. Any balances remaining after this deadline will be subject to a penalty of 1.25 per cent per month.
For those who may wish to contest their property assessments, the deadline to file an appeal with the Board of Revision is 4:00 p.m. on October 2, 2026.
Changes to provincial tax programs will also affect how property owners calculate their total costs this year. The Province of Manitoba has replaced the previous education property tax credit with the Homeowners Affordability Tax Credit. Under the updated system, the maximum credit for 2026 has increased to $1,600, up from $1,500 in 2025. The province also noted that the previous school tax rebate has been eliminated for most residential properties, though farm properties remain eligible for a 50 per cent rebate on school taxes.
Looking further ahead to 2027, the provincial government plans to increase the maximum credit to $1,700. However, the program will also introduce a sliding scale for properties assessed over $1,000,000, with no credit provided for properties assessed at $1,500,000 or higher.
These updates come as the town continues to manage the needs of one of the fastest-growing communities in Manitoba, including the construction of a new regional hospital expected to open later in 2027.
