Jodie Byram, the representative for Agassiz, presented a petition to the Manitoba Legislature on March 12, 2026, calling for a CT scanner to be included in the new hospital currently under construction in Neepawa, Manitoba. The document included signatures from more than 500 residents who want better access to medical imaging in their own community.
The community effort focuses on ensuring rural patients can get specialized tests locally rather than being sent to other regional hospitals. Byram noted that having this equipment would help provide care closer to home for those living in the area.
The new Neepawa Health Centre is a $127 million project that will be significantly larger than the existing hospital. It is designed to be the first all-electric health facility in southern Manitoba.
Construction on the three-storey building is currently underway, with an expected opening date in late 2026 or early 2027. Byram has a follow-up meeting with the provincial health minister to further discuss adding the scanner to the project.
The regional health authority, Prairie Mountain Health, will be responsible for managing and staffing the new centre. Local advocates believe that without this advanced equipment, the facility will not fully meet the needs of the surrounding community.
