Residents in Niverville, Manitoba, are being warned to prepare for icy roads and sidewalks as temperatures are expected to drop significantly starting March 8, 2026. According to Environment Canada, a daytime high of +4°C and a 60 per cent chance of showers will give way to an overnight low of -7°C, creating a high risk of ice forming quickly on wet surfaces.
The cold weather is expected to continue through the start of the work week, with Monday night reaching a low of -12°C. These freezing temperatures mean that any rain or melted snow left on the ground could turn into “black ice,” which is often invisible and dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.
Manitoba Public Insurance advises that vehicles require much longer distances to stop on icy patches. Provincial authorities from Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure also recommend that drivers completely clear all frost and ice from windows, mirrors, and lights to ensure they have a clear view of the road.
Local public works crews may be out to treat high-traffic routes with sand or salt to help manage the slippery conditions. People heading outdoors should also prepare for a wind chill that is expected to feel like -13°C overnight on Sunday and near -15°C on Monday.
