The Manitoba government and the Town of Niverville are partnering on a $17.7-million project to reconstruct a key section of Provincial Road 311. Announced on April 17, 2026, the project will expand the road to four lanes, add a new roundabout, and improve traffic signals to accommodate the rapid growth of the community.
The province is contributing $9.7 million toward the construction costs, with the town funding the remaining $8 million. The work will focus on a 3.5-kilometre stretch from west of Wallace Road to Fifth Avenue. In addition to adding lanes and a roundabout, crews will install new turning lanes and upgrade drainage systems along this vital corridor.
Niverville has experienced significant growth as Manitoba’s fastest-growing community, with an estimated population now between 7,500 and 8,000 residents. The road project is designed to handle increased traffic from recent developments, including the 25,000-square-foot Jette Studios, which opened at the corner of Wallace Road and Provincial Road 311 in March 2025.
Construction is set to begin later in 2026 and is expected to span approximately two years. While the work will improve safety and reduce congestion, it will also impact local events; the Niverville Fair will need to relocate to a new site starting in 2027 to accommodate the construction.
Once the project is finished, the province will transfer ownership and responsibility for that section of the road to the town. The provincial government, led by Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Lisa Naylor, will continue to manage and maintain the traffic signals.
