Local police officers will hit the ice to play the Niverville Panthers high school hockey team during the week of March 27, 2026, to help build stronger ties within the community of Niverville, Manitoba. Admission to the game is free for everyone.
Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy, who leads the police in Manitoba, will join officers from the Niverville and St-Pierre-Jolys offices for the match. McMurchy has over 35 years of experience and is a long-time hockey player himself.
The Panthers are a successful high school team coached by Brandon Lockerby and currently hold a record of 21 wins and only two losses. The game is intended to promote local sports and engagement between youth and law enforcement.
This community event follows the opening of the Niverville RCMP Municipal Detachment on November 3, 2025. The new office, located at 329A Bronstone Drive, is staffed by four officers to serve the nearly 6,000 people living in the area.
Mayor Myron Dyck said that increasing emergency services is vital as the town continues to grow. The RCMP Foundation helps support programs like this to make communities safer by building better connections between officers and residents.
