Norway House area schools will have a new superintendent starting this summer. The Frontier School Division announced on May 22 that Donna Miller Fry has been appointed as the Area 5 Superintendent-Designate, and she will begin her new role on August 4, 2026.
Area 5 is based in Norway House and covers two schools: the Helen Betty Osborne Ininiw Education Resource Centre, a nursery to Grade 12 school with about 1,100 students, and Jack River School, which serves nursery to Grade 8. The area office is located in Norway House, with the address Box 1000 and phone (204) 359-6711. The schools are overseen by the Frontier School Division, which runs 41 schools across northern Manitoba and is the province’s largest school division by area.
Miller Fry brings over 30 years of education leadership experience from across Canada. She has worked in teaching and principal roles in Ontario, taught education programs at universities in the Yukon and Ontario, and previously served in Manitoba as Secretary-Treasurer and Superintendent of the Pine Creek School Division, according to the division’s announcement. Her education includes a Master of Education in Leadership and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Change Management. She also holds certification in Oral Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
The appointment was shared by Chief Superintendent Tyson MacGillivray, who welcomed Miller Fry to the division. Trustees Mike Muswagon and Charlene Throop represent the Norway House area on the Frontier School Division board, as listed by the Manitoba School Boards Association. The superintendent role involves leading school operations and supporting students and families in the community.
Miller Fry’s start date of August 4 means she will be in place before the 2026-2027 school year begins, allowing time to work with staff and families across Norway House schools.
