The Norway House Cree Nation has officially concluded its 2026 election cycle with the results of the May 1 run-off vote. Following a contested process, Season Roulette has been elected Chief, securing 1,923 votes against Larson Anderson, who received 983 votes.
The final tally, overseen by Electoral Officer Myrna O’Soup-Bushie, brings a resolution to an electoral period that began on March 10, 2026. That initial vote resulted in a tie after an appeal regarding a rejected ballot was successfully challenged. To ensure governance continued during the transition, Councillor Alfred Laugher was appointed as Deputy Chief and served as Acting Chief starting April 8, 2026.
The election process also involved several appeal hearings. On April 27, 2026, the Election Appeal Committee dismissed four separate appeals concerning campaign activities, concluding that conduct such as providing food and entertainment during campaign events did not constitute corrupt practices.
The newly confirmed leadership for the community of 9,369 registered members includes Chief Season Roulette and six councillors: Alfred Laugher, Edward Albert, Tyler Duncan, Tim Folster, John Henry, and Christina Mitchell.
