The Norway House Cree Nation (NHCN) Electoral Officer Myrna O’Soup-Bushie has confirmed that preparations for the upcoming May 1, 2026, run-off vote are moving forward, including the distribution of mail-in ballots.
The election, necessitated by a contested Chief election result on March 10, 2026, involves candidates Season Roulette and Larson Anderson. As of late April 2026, the Appeal Committee had yet to issue a final decision regarding whether the Chief election resulted in a formal tie. While the Committee continues its review of several election appeals, Electoral Officer OSoup-Bushie has noted that the status of the tie decision could impact the proceeding of the vote.
During this electoral transition, governance of the First Nation continues under the leadership of Acting Chief and Deputy Chief Alfred Laugher, following an April 8, 2026, Council decision to ensure continuity of governance. He is working alongside the six elected councillors to maintain the daily business and operations of the community.
