Oshawa is keeping Lakeview Park Beach East and all city splash pads open until sunset as a heat warning grips the Pickering-Oshawa-Southern Durham Region. Environment Canada had an orange-level heat warning in effect on July 1, 2026, with temperatures expected to hit 34 to 36 degrees Celsius through Thursday, feeling more like 37 with humidity.
The extended hours are part of Oshawa’s heat event protocol, which automatically kicks in when weather alerts are posted. Normally, the beach and splash pads close earlier, but residents now have extra time to cool off at the waterfront. The Camp Samac Outdoor Pool will also stay open until sunset.
Lifeguards remain on duty at Lakeview Park Beach East from 11:30 a.m. until sunset, weather permitting. After hours, swimmers are reminded to use caution and stick to the supervised area, as the west beach has no lifeguard coverage. The Durham Region Health Department also tests water quality at the east beach for E. coli to keep conditions safe.
Daily splash pad hours normally run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but during the heat alert they stay on until dusk at Lakeview Park, Delpark Homes Centre, and Pinecrest Park. The hot spell is forecast to last through Friday, July 3, and could stretch into Saturday.
