Durham Regional Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who used counterfeit money at a legal cannabis store in Oshawa, Ontario, on April 4, 2026. The suspect bought several items with fake cash at Sessions Cannabis, located at 1 Warren Avenue, and returned later the same day to try again but was turned away.
The man is described as White, 30 to 40 years old, with a thin build, brown hair, and a moustache. He was wearing a Blue Jays ball cap and a blue hoodie at the time. Police believe someone may recognize him or have video from the area that could lead to an arrest.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the Financial Crimes Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact D/Cst. Kane at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5371. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
This incident is part of a troubling rise in counterfeit currency fraud across Durham Region. Police say such crimes jumped 121 per cent in 2025 compared to the year before, prompting warnings for residents and businesses to stay alert and check bills carefully.
