On March 24, 2026, Oshawa Power officially started building its new operations centre in Oshawa, Ontario. The utility is creating a single 6.5-acre hub at 2072 Thornton Road North to house its offices, vehicles, and equipment in one place. This move is designed to help the company keep up with the city’s rapid growth while keeping electricity rates affordable for local families.
The new facility will include a 30,000-square-foot office building, a warehouse, and a garage for service trucks. For nearly 95 years, the utility has worked out of its downtown headquarters on Simcoe Street South, but the company says it needs more space to better serve the community. The new site is located in the Thornton Business Park, placing workers closer to the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in the north end of the city.
To complete the project, the utility is working with a team that includes the real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield and local architects Barry Bryan Associates. The Fortis Group will lead the construction work as the general contractor. Crews have already begun working on the land, and the company expects to move into the new building by the end of 2027.
According to the utility, this investment is a key part of its plan to modernize the local power grid and explore new energy options. By moving closer to areas where new homes are being built, the company aims to respond more quickly to power outages and maintain reliable service for its 60,000 customers. The project is supported by the City of Oshawa; the power company has been serving the community for nearly 139 years.
