The City of Oshawa has formally applied to acquire a portion of land at 1120 Conlin Road East to move forward with the ongoing widening and reconstruction of the roadway between Simcoe Street North and Townline Road North. This move is part of a larger project intended to improve traffic flow and update utility infrastructure in the area.
According to the official notice published on March 23, 2026, the city is seeking both a land acquisition and a permanent easement to install a new stormwater inlet. The application, signed by City Clerk Mary Medeiros, is being handled under the authority of the Ontario Expropriations Act.
The property owner has a 30-day window, ending April 22, 2026, to request a formal hearing if they wish to challenge whether the taking of the land is fair, sound and reasonably necessary. Any such challenge would be heard by the Ontario Land Tribunal, which oversees disputes regarding land acquisitions of this nature.
The work on Conlin Road East is part of a multi-phase construction project involving road widening, a new roundabout at Grandview Street North, and the installation of new sidewalks and a multi-use pathway. The current phase, managed by contractor Graham Bros. Construction Limited and including Regional infrastructure work by the Region of Durham, is expected to continue through November 2026.
