Environment Canada has issued an orange-level snow squall warning for Owen Sound, Ontario, on March 17, 2026, as heavy snow and high winds create dangerous conditions for drivers. The weather alert also covers the Blue Mountains and Northern Grey County throughout the day.
Residents should prepare for between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow accumulation. These snow squalls are coming off Lake Huron and are expected to cause near-zero visibility on local roads.
Wind gusts are reaching speeds of 70 to 80 kilometres per hour, making travel extremely hazardous. Officials are recommending that people stay off the roads and avoid outdoor activities until the weather clears.
The heavy snow and wind may also lead to power outages and potential road closures in the area. Weather conditions are expected to slowly improve starting late Tuesday afternoon.
