Residents in Owen Sound should prepare for changes to city services and transit options during the upcoming Easter long weekend, which includes the statutory holiday on Good Friday, April 3, 2026.
Local bus service provided by Owen Sound Transit will not operate on Good Friday or Easter Monday, as the city does not run its conventional or mobility transit services on statutory holidays. However, those travelling between communities can still use the Guelph Owen Sound Transit service, which maintains its regular schedule seven days a week, including all holidays except Christmas Day. This intercommunity service continues to operate through August 31, 2026, thanks to support from the Province of Ontario, along with Grey and Wellington counties.
City facilities are also set to observe the holiday. While specific 2026 operating hours are pending, residents can expect City Hall and the Public Works Administration Building to close on both Good Friday and Easter Monday, with regular business resuming on Tuesday, April 7. Additionally, recreation facilities such as the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre and the Bayshore Community Centre typically adjust their hours for the holiday weekend.
Emergency services, including the Owen Sound Police Service and Owen Sound Fire & Emergency Services, will remain open and fully operational 24 hours a day throughout the entire weekend. The Service Canada Centre also confirms that Good Friday is recognized as a statutory holiday.
