The main office for Grey County services at 595 9th Ave East in Owen Sound has been shut down since June 23 due to an electrical problem, pushing all in-person help online or over the phone until Friday, June 26, when it will reopen for regular business hours.
The county confirmed the closure will keep the doors locked at least through Tuesday, with no timeline for reopening shared as of Wednesday morning. Staff are still working and can be reached through the county website at www.grey.ca or by calling 1-800-567-4739. Residents who need to speak with someone about social assistance, housing, children’s programs, or other county services are encouraged to use those remote channels.
All visitors who normally handle business face-to-face in the expanded building are affected. The facility houses a number of county-run services, including Ontario Works, paramedic administration, and the Provincial Offences Court under a single roof. The county’s scheduled meetings for Thursday, June 25—a full council session and a Committee of the Whole gathering—will be held online rather than in the usual chamber. County officials said they will share more details about the building’s condition later Wednesday.
The administration hub serves as the central point of contact for the upper-tier government that covers more than 100,000 people across southwestern Ontario. Owen Sound anchors the county’s daily operations, making the disruption felt widely by residents who depend on walk-in services.
