Owen Sound residents and neighbours can safely get rid of old paint, batteries and other household hazards this Saturday, June 13, before heading downtown for the Grey Bruce Pride Parade and Big Gay Block Party.
The City of Owen Sound is holding its third Household Hazardous Waste Day of 2026 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, 1900 20th Street East. The free drop-off is open to people from Owen Sound, Chatsworth, Meaford, Georgian Bluffs and Grey Highlands.
Accepted items include paints, solvents, antifreeze, gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, fertilizers, propane tanks, fluorescent tubes, pharmaceuticals and more than 35 other household chemicals. Rechargeable and Ni-Cad batteries must be taped or bagged before transport. Residents need to bring valid ID showing their home address and fill out a Hazardous Waste Report Form before dropping anything off.
The collection ends an hour before the eighth annual Grey Bruce Pride Parade kicks off at 3 p.m. in the River District, followed by the second annual Big Gay Block Party running until 11 p.m. The timing lets residents take care of household cleanups and still enjoy the downtown celebrations.
