The Owen Sound Police Service has taken a 24-year-old local man into custody following the discovery of drugs and weapons during an arrest on April 1, 2026. The man, who appeared in bail court on April 2, 2026, is now facing multiple charges, including possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, as well as weapon-related offences.
Officers originally took the individual into custody just after noon on an unrelated matter. During the subsequent search, police found a quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of $5,300, along with drug packaging materials, an electronic scale, brass knuckles, and a replica air pistol.
This arrest is part of a recent increase in local enforcement efforts targeting drug-related activity. Just one week earlier, between March 25 and March 26, 2026, officers arrested nine people during an operation focused on public drug use in the downtown core. This effort marked the first targeted enforcement campaign of its kind in several years.
The Owen Sound Police Service, which serves approximately 21,000 residents, has indicated that community members should expect to see increased police activity as this investigation continues. The service utilizes specialized teams, including the Criminal Investigations Branch and the Community Oriented Response Unit, to address these ongoing community safety concerns.
