The City of Owen Sound and the Scenic City Order of Good Cheer are inviting residents to help shape the future of Kelso Beach at Nawash Park by providing feedback on plans to replace the aging playground and update the splash pad. A $500,000 project is now underway to revitalize these facilities, with the costs shared equally between the city and the volunteer organization.
The current playground is over 25 years old, and many of its wooden parts have already been taken out of service due to wear. The splash pad, which opened in 2011, also requires updates to remain functional for the community. Design firm Croziers is currently working on the project, with construction expected to begin in the fall of 2026.
Residents have several opportunities to weigh in on the designs. An online engagement survey is open until May 27, 2026. Additionally, the city is hosting an in-person open house at City Hall on May 20, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for those who wish to view the plans and ask questions.
The Scenic City Order of Good Cheer has a long history of supporting local recreation, having contributed nearly $2 million to various community projects over the last 27 years. The group previously funded the park’s original splash pad and washroom facilities. This partnership to renovate the current site aligns with the city’s focus on maintaining and upgrading existing community infrastructure.
