The Owen Sound Police Service is advising drivers in Owen Sound, Ontario, to be extra careful on the roads this March because of slippery conditions. As the weather cycles between freezing and thawing, local streets and highways are becoming hazardous, particularly for those travelling south out of the city.
Police are asking motorists to slow down and leave more space between vehicles to avoid accidents. Drivers should adjust their speed based on the current weather and road surface rather than the posted speed limit to stay safe during these spring transitions.
The City of Owen Sound also put seasonal weight limits in place on March 1, 2026, to help protect the pavement. These rules limit heavy vehicles to a maximum of five tonnes per axle while the roads are sensitive to damage during the spring thaw.
Residents can report road safety hazards or non-urgent concerns to the police by calling the non-emergency line at 519-376-1234. For any life-threatening emergencies or dangerous situations on the road, people should always call 911 immediately.
