The City of Pembroke is looking for an engineering firm to design a major expansion of its water main system, with proposals due by 2:00:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The city issued a request for proposals on August 6, seeking professional engineering design and contract administration services for the Trunk Watermain Expansion project. This work is part of a larger $39.4 million upgrade, boosted by a $28.7 million provincial grant from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream.
The project will expand the city’s existing water storage reservoir and build a new trunk watermain connecting Pembroke to the Township of Laurentian Valley. It also includes finishing the design for a new water tower. According to the city, the work will address an existing water storage shortage and aging infrastructure, some of which is over 50 years old.
Pembroke’s water system has faced recent challenges. In November 2025, a major trunk watermain break in Riverside Park left residents of Pembroke and Laurentian Valley under a water conservation advisory for about two weeks. The city currently replaces only about 0.06 percent of its water mains each year, far below the Ministry’s recommended 2 percent.
The winning engineering firm will handle design and contract administration for the expansion. Colliers Project Leaders is managing the RFP process, with Jared Wright listed as the project manager contact.
Interested companies can submit four hard copies or an emailed PDF by the August 27 deadline. The project is expected to improve water reliability and support future residential growth in the area.
