The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is in the final hours of its fourth annual Community Challenge for Healthcare in Pembroke, Ontario, with organizers urging residents to help reach the remaining fundraising goal. As of March 31, 2026, the final day of the month-long event, the foundation has raised $24,348 of its $26,444 target, leaving $2,096 left to be collected to pay for two new patient beds.
Foundation officials noted that hospital equipment purchases are not fully covered by government funding. Because of this, the organization relies on community donations to acquire essential medical tools that improve patient comfort and care.
This year’s campaign is supported by several local sponsors, including Frank Carroll Financial Ltd., Roseburg Forest Products, MacEwen, itsxogingy – Stephanie Hughes, The Brick Pembroke, and Hustle & Heart 104.9 myFM.
The Community Challenge for Healthcare has seen consistent community support since it began in 2023. The first year of the event raised over $38,000 for cancer care, and the second year brought in more than $25,000. Additionally, the foundation’s Catch the Ace lottery program has successfully raised over $1 million, funding equipment such as 2 new ultrasound machines, a New Born Resuscitaire, a Maternal Fetal Monitor, and 10 new patient beds, with over $400,000 also directed toward a new CT scanner.
Looking ahead, the hospital is preparing to launch a larger capital campaign in 2026 called Together, We Care. Chaired by Dr. Christy Natsis, this initiative aims to fund advanced technology, including a new CT scanner and an integrated health information system (Epic/MyChart), to support the needs of the growing local population.
The hospital continues to serve as a District Stroke Centre and provides a wide range of regional services, including mental health, orthopaedics, cardiac care, and cancer treatment. This work is further supported by the recent amalgamation of The Phoenix Centre for Children and Families with the hospital, which took effect April 1, 2026, to strengthen mental health services for youth and families in Renfrew County.
