Swimming lessons are beginning this week at the Kinsmen Pool in Pembroke, Ontario, offering local residents a variety of aquatic instruction through the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. The City of Pembroke Parks and Recreation Department is providing programming for all ages, ranging from infant Parent and Tot sessions to National Lifeguard certification courses for teens and adults.
The facility, located at 424 Herbert St., serves as a central hub for the region, welcoming swimmers from the Township of Laurentian Valley, the Town of Petawawa, the Whitewater Region, and the Town of Shawville. After closing in January 2024 due to safety concerns regarding the building’s roof and walls, the pool underwent $1.4 million in structural repairs and officially reopened to the public on January 15, 2025.
Registration for the current session opened on April 13, 2026. Residents can sign up for lessons online at the city’s website or in person at the pool. Payment is required at the time of registration. For those seeking more personalized instruction, private lessons are available by request at a rate of $59.54 per 15-minute session, with additional fees applied for non-residents.
Pembroke Mayor Ron Gervais has previously highlighted the importance of the facility, describing the pool as a wonderful community asset for the region. For more information, residents can contact the pool staff at 613-735-6821, extension 1506.
