The City of Pembroke is moving ahead with plans to overhaul underground systems and road surfaces on Isabella Street. The municipality has opened the bidding process for a 250-metre construction project stretching from Doran Street to Moffat Street.
This project involves a complete reconstruction of sanitary, storm, and water infrastructure. Once the underground work is finished, the street will be rebuilt to a modern urban standard, which includes new hard and soft landscaping. Contractors interested in the project can obtain digital tender documents from the Ainley Group, the engineering firm overseeing the work.
The city will accept sealed bids for the project until 2:00:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Any questions regarding the tender must be submitted in writing by noon on May 7, 2026. Construction is set to take place between June and October 2026, and residents should expect traffic disruptions and changes to access in the area throughout that time.
This work is part of a broader push by the city to address aging infrastructure. Earlier this year, the municipality received $38.6 million in provincial funding for water upgrades, which represents the largest grant in the city’s history. These improvements are being prioritized as part of the 2026 budget, which includes a specific allocation from residential taxes to help close an ongoing $4 million annual funding gap for capital projects.
